Archive Centre ws2012

Crickhowell District Archive Centre is a treasure trove for family history hunters researching their roots. Run by volunteers, it was set up in 1999 by a group of local people in Crickhowell spurred on by a growing interest in genealogy. Situated upstairs at the Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre the Archive Centre is open from mon-sat between 10am-12.30pm. Visitors can research in the archives or be helped in their investigations by the volunteer(s) of the day, according to their needs. A research service is provided for those unable to visit in person but charges have to be made for this, to help cover the cost of running the Centre. The Centre holds the census records for all of the surrounding parishes from 1841 to 1891, Tythe maps and schedules c1840 of the same area, Ordnance Survey maps including some First Editions, local parish records, Trade Directories, a library of local history books and a large amount of historical data. These records are held on microfiche, CDs or in hard copy with the long term aim of digitising most of them.
