CWMDU FIGHTS TO SAVE VILLAGE PHONE BOX

Posted on Feb 23rd 2017

IMG_0508BT has identified the public payphone in Cwmdu 01874 730258 situated adjacent to the public conveniences (now closed) on the A479 in the centre of the village as being one of those in South Powys that they wish to remove.

The village has been the scene of many motor accidents over past decades, some sadly fatal, and the provision of a 24/7 easily accessible landline is vital to the community because of the absence of mobile phone service in the area.

Cwmdu residents were delighted to receive a Defibrillator a few years ago from the excellent fund-raising project of Crickhowell High School pupils; this was positioned beside the payphone so that the Emergency Services could be contacted immediately while first aid is being administered.

The local community is being urged to take part in the fight to keep such vital payphones open in rural communities such as ours. Details of the website for responses which need to be made by February 26th…….hence the urgency. https://www.growinpowys.com/payphones
